PROFOUND THOUGHTS

As I sat
in the pristine white
ice cream parlor
licking
 my “small” strawberry cone
that cost more than two dollars
I counted off the years with each lick
back to 1935
when somewhat similar cones
could be had for a nickel
and postage stamps
for a first class letter
 were three cents.
I had no other profound thoughts
about our changing world
except that
though we no longer
lick postage stamps
we still lick our ice cream cones.
