FOUR THOUSAND

I’ve known none of them —
have wept for some of them
as their stories have been told
and their spouses or their parents
have appeared on TV or in print.
It’s like watching an hour glass —
casualties slipping through
and building
to become a mountain growing
and there is no way of knowing
when such insanity will cease.
