A MERRY CHASE

I am bothered by my mind some days
because it does not travel
where I think it ought to go
or where I wish it to.
My thoughts seem out of my control
and yet I follow them around.
They lead my on a merry chase
and I have little choice
but to pursue.
My brain’s meandering
moves up and down the landscape of my mind:
ridiculous to the sublime —
boring to fascinating —
depressing to hilarious —
flighty to focused —
sometimes a bit embarrassing.

I wonder
if there are other folks
that God has made this way.
