I listen to the chimes
that tell our time —
that fill the air
and note
the passing of the hours.

They are reminders
of my passing hours —
and right now
they seem to play
a melody of sadness

They suggest to me
that I am mortal
and though that’s true
I’d prefer it to be otherwise.
Yes, I’d rather be immortal.

I listen to those chimes
and pay them little heed.
