WONDERMENT

I don’t know exactly when
I started dealing in my mind
with the ineffable —
wondering where space began
and what could be beyond —
wondering when time began
and trying to fathom
what went on before its birth.

I’ve made no progress
with my ruminations.
They’ve stayed the same
and though I’ve dealt with them
so many times
in all my many years
I’m as baffled as I was
when first I tried to fathom
space and time.

Greater minds than mine
have sought
the where
and when
and how.
And some have in their quests
encountered God
while others search
and have not found.

I’m in and out of divinity
but have some proclivity
toward finding awe
in all my wonderment.
