RE-INVENTING THE USUAL

The clouds are not impressive
in the early morning light
though they have been that way often
as the earth lets go of night.

The trees seem less compelling
as I walk along today —
I wonder if I’ve lost my wonder
as I walk along the way.

It is true, the birds are singing
as they have sung before
but I seem to have a tendency
to listen but ignore.

But it’s not the world that’s changing
for it’s about the same.
It’s I who’ve done the changing.
There  is nothing else to blame.

So I had better re-invent
the thing I’ve lost somehow.
Tomorrow I will take another path
my inner self I’ll plough.
