If one has grown old —

(for some, not very old}

he has likely had experience

with matters never dreamed of

way back when he was young.

It could be said of him:

“He has risen to his occasions.”

Or, it might  be said of him

he knows how to: “bite the bullet”.

There are lots of ways

to speak of coping skills.

I need not delineate.

for each of us has acquired

his own particular words

to  turn such matters into language.

Those who have risen well

and those who  have bitten well

are to be congratulated  if

they’ve done these things

without much complaining.
