IF YOU DIE

I have heard it said

many times: IF YOU DIE

but never in a funeral home —

and never from

an employee of one.

But she caught herself

and immediately made

the correction.

I was amused, and yet

not amused

for we were there

to talk about final plans

and that’s sobering.

Considering WHENESS

is a thing we do, sometimes.

But we didn’t do it when

we made our wedding plans.
