When folks sit down for a meal –
before they get into the tasting –
they often express their gratitude
in prayer – be it in words or silence.

I have come to expand my appreciation
to include my medications –
so when I take them
at morning and at night
I let it be known
to the man who stands
in front of me in my mirror
that I”m beholden to so many
for creating the chemicals
that bless my life.

Without them
I likely wouldn’t be here –
or if here
I wouldn’t the man I am:
still able to be
rather happily human.
