IT’S NICE TO BE WARM IN THE COLD

The frost was thorough.
It hardly missed a thing:
roof tops, bushes —
mail boxes, the road, and branches
all pristine white —
almost as if it snowed.
My breath came out like smoke.
Puddles had turned to ice.
I was warm in my down jacket —
head covered with a stocking cap.
It’s nice to be warm in the cold —
not everyone is.
