ANOTHER VISIT BY THE MOON

The moon had been carved
by the shadow of the earth
and it tipped into the dawn
looking like a gravy boat
emptying star dust.

I felt a tingling in my eyes
and on my forehead
as I strained
to see it all above me
and as I felt
the darkness yield about me.
