At Six A.M.

At six a. m. I gather up my bones
and place my bones upon the floor.
I gather up the bones I own
and place my feet upon the floor.
I never started keeping score
until my age became four score and more
and now I seem unable to ignore
how many times I’ve placed my feet upon the floor.
Three hundred sixty five
times all those years
that I’ve acquired since I became a toddler
and put my feet upon the floor
to walk the walk that I’ve been on.
