I have been told by folks
who know more than I do
that one’s cognitive skills
tend to diminish as he ages.

Those same folks told me recently
that the higher one goes into the air,
his cognitive skills diminish because of
a lack of oxygen.

Now I am battling not only aging, but height
and my mental capacities are diminishing
faster than I wish.

Recently my wife and I moved to
the 11th floor of a place that offers space
to older folks like we have become.

When I look out of my window I feel high
and in need of more air that’s closer to the earth.

This double impact on our minds is tough to take.

Those who live below us
may have a better chance of surviving well.

I feel badly for those who live above us.
