When it’s November
I climb the attic ladder
to bring down
the down that covers us ‘til spring.

And then our flannel sheets
conspire with our down comforter
to keep us warm
‘til days again have greatly lengthened.

When I go to sleep
instead of counting sheep
I thank our feathered friends, the geese
for keeping chilly nights away
while we’re in dream land.
