I WATCH TV

I’m amazed
that I can see
so many tragedies
and then get on with life
without a thought of
what my eyes and ears
absorbed so recently.

I watch TV
and that is how
it works for me

And I suspect
that you’re the same as I —
that you can get exposed
to so much pain
and even if you wince
that you’ll  return again
to what you were
before a channel
offered you catastrophes.

If we didn’t have  immunity
from exposures to the vast array
of human suffering
we’d likely weep and weep
and drown ourselves in tears.
