I don’t remember much
that my father taught me –
but I do recall his telling me
“When you talk with someone
look them in the eye.”
I believe I do that
and I think most folks
employ that way of doing things.
Once in awhile
I encounter those who don’t
and I find that distracting.

But frequently when I’m with folks
and I’m accompanied by my wife
I note: they’d rather
look into her eyes than mine.

I don’t blame them for that!
Her eyes are brown.

I can’t resist them
