If you’re reading a book
and you return to it
and you find
your book mark is gone —
misplaced somehow
you are exasperated
and unable with ease
to reenter where you were.
You must take time
to recover the familiar
and then you can advance
from that point you left off.

I have sometimes lost my place
in the unfolding pages of my life
and I’ve had to figure out
where I was
before continuing to go
where I was going.
