you need to know
you matter.
Of course
we’re made of matter
but it isn’t that
that matters —
but knowing that we matter.

We might not
have mattered much
a hundred years ago
and we’ll likely matter little
a hundred years from now.
But at this moment
I who write
and you who read

To whom? —
you may not know
them all
but you may know
at least a few
and some day
you may be surprised
to learn you matter
more than you ever thought.

Lets hope the mattering
will unfold while you’re still here
and not just appear
obituary columns espouse
and even overdue
a lot of mattering.
