MEMORIAL DAY

I  remember
that I forget  —
forget too often
what’s needed to to be recollected:
the gifts I  take for granted
in my dailyness —
gifts unearned by most of us
who plod along with hours
consumed by various agendas
that seldom let us
ponder freedom.
How we need this day!
