My shadow began to follow me quite suddenly.
The  sun just rose behind some trees
and scattered shadows everywhere
but only mine was moving.
I turned and found my shadow by my side
and tried to hold its hand upon its swinging arm
but found resistance to my overture
I could not overcome.
Not only did it  not allow  my  grasp
but ran in front of me so I could see
its length exceeded mine.
Then (and this you’ll not believe)
my shadow detached itself from me
and ran and ran and later greeted me
as I arrived upon our steps at home.
