SEA DUTY

The old vet who had 30 years in the Navy
asked me how much sea duty I had had
when I was in.

I had been stationed in Floyd Bennet Field in Brooklyn.

I hesitated , and then said”: one day they needed some munitions moved
from our base to some place in Trenton, NJ. I got the job.

I drove to the ferry where I crossed the Hudson River.
I returned the same way later in the day.

I guess I got a couple of hours”

The old salt said nothing.
