SEEING AND LOOKING AT

A lot of what I see I don’t look at.

Or, perhaps I can say:
a lot of what I look at I don’t see.

Even though we can say it both ways
I think you know what I mean.

I know that I see people most every day
but don’t really look at them.

I also know that when I encounter beauty
I sometimes miss its essence.

I would like to be more sensitive
relative to this matter
but I am afraid that as I get older
and things within me diminish
I do not do as I would like
as much as I used to.

I really would like to see what I look at
or really look at what I see.

Maybe the important word is neither
look at nor see, but REALLY.

I really want to be more into
what my ears and eyes offer me each day.
