It’s good to hesitate while walking.
Advocates for speed to get the heart beat up
may sometimes disregard
the heart inspired by awe.
So — stop to listen to the bird song —
really see a single flower —
watch the clouds go swirling.

Your cardiac therapist
may recommend:
faster, faster.
Your spiritual advisor
may suggest:
take time to view the waving grasses..

One thing for sure:
when you grow old you’re slowing down.
But slowing down may not assure
you’ll see the bounties of the landscape —
it only offers opportunities.
