SUCH A TEMPORARY THING!

I’ve made more than

twelve thousand baby rattles

since 1980.

They’ve been shipped

all over our fine land.

rattle

Most babies

were able to grasp them

by the time

they were

six months old —

and discarded them

certainly after a year or two.

Once grown  into toddlerhood

they would forget their pleasure

of grasping what I had made.

Such a temporary thing:

a shake, a smile

and possibly some mouthing.

My claim to fame so brief!
