THE LONG ALLIGATOR

The alligator was” twelve feet long” —
that’s what he thought they said.

It was early in the morning
when they said it
to a man who hears poorly.

That same man met a friend
along the way —
also hearing impaired.

The alligator grew again.

That  was the excitement
the old folks had that day —
the old folks who live
by the side of Sunset Lake.
