There are special moments planned for
and when fulfilled
we note them in some way —
bring out the photographs, perhaps
and reminisce.

But our lives have special moments
when we are changed by unexpected things.
They commence to set us on another path
and not the one that we had traveled.

Years ago, near mid-life-crisis time
I used a table saw
to rip a piece of wood a certain width.
That triggered an unplanned turning —
one that led me to bid farewell to one career
and to embrace another.
