THE WAITING

There in the room I waited was a crucifix —
my feelings were of hope and fear — a mix.

There in the room I waited — a Gideon Bible.
My mind was clear — its focus on survival.

There in the room I waited time went fast —
moved slowly. How long will this procedure last?

Then I had this sudden sense
that we were being prayed for.
And I relaxed and I reclined
