She became her charge

last  Christmas.


Santa granted her wish:

a hampster

that took on

the name of Wubulu.


Nobody knew

that so soon

the girl would

become acquainted with

her first serious grief.


Eight year olds

do not know that

they will become

familiar with this emotion.


It is always difficult

to embrace it.


The first time

is a sort of baptism.
